Florida D.A.’s office defers decision on motion for a retrial
THE motion proposed by Leonard Weinglass, requesting a new trial at a venue outside of Miami for the five Cubans unjustly imprisoned in the United States after a rigged trial in that Florida city, should have received a reply from the D.A.’s office on December 15. However the answer was put off until December 23 and then the 26.

Message to the U.S. people
GERARDO Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González have now been imprisoned in the United States for more than four years without having committed any crime or having in any way inflicted damage on the U.S. people.

One year after Fernando’s unjust sentence
ON December 18, 2001, Fernando González Llort, one of the five Cubans convicted after a political trial in Miami, was sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Popular, political and trade union organizations in Guatemala have formed a committee for the release of the five Cubans imprisoned in the United States, during a rally in which the U.S. economic blockade on Cuba was also condemned.

LAOS SUPPORTS CUBAN CAMPAIGN
THE people and government of Laos are supporting Cuba in its campaign to free the five heroes unjustly imprisoned in the United States, because they recognize the anti-terrorist work they were carrying out for their country, states Phovanykev Langsy, ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos, while visiting the island’s central province of Cienfuegos.

DURING a Washington protest and before a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people, Leonard Weinglass, the eminent U.S. human rights attorney, who is also heading the Cuban Five’s legal defense team, denounced the fact that the five Cubans who fought against terrorism committed from the United States are now serving life terms in that nation’s penitentiaries.

U.S. committee calls for release of the Five
September
12, 2002
THE U.S. National Committee to Free the Five has called on President Bush for the immediate release of the five Cuban fighters against terrorism currently in U.S. federal prisons. In parallel it has organized a public meeting in New York for today, September 12, four years after their arrest.

THIS September 12, four years on from the detention of the five Cuban heroes currently imprisoned in the United States, is to be marked by various activities worldwide, mounted by an international campaign for their release that has been steadily growing and gaining in strength.

The case of the five: unknown in the United Stated
William F. Gaskins tells us that he lives in Texas, United States. "I recently visited your web site and can honestly say it has opened new doors for me. I had no idea that five Cuban citizens were being imprisoned by our government. CNN apparently was not notified."

For the release of the five
Ernesto Cabreras from Miami has sent us a poem dedicated to the five Cuban heroes imprisoned in the United States. His intention is to offer them "more fortitude in these difficult times." Here it is:

New Solidarity Committee with the five Cuban patriots established in Sao Paulo
A Solidarity Committee for the Liberation of the Five Cubans in U.S. Jails was established in Sao Paulo, Brazil on August 19, with the objective of promoting solidarity with the prisoners, their families and the Cuban people.

“WE are going to inform the U.S. people about the injustice committed against those fighting terrorism,” affirmed Dolores Huerta in Havana. The co-founder of the U.S. Agricultural Workers Union was at a meeting with relatives of the five Cubans unjustly imprisoned in the United States.

‘The United States seems to want to bury the Five’s case’
OVER one hundred people, including members of the British Parliament’s Houses of Commons and Lords, filled a House of Commons committee room in London on July 9 to hear a talk by Paul McKenna, lawyer for one of the five Cubans imprisoned in the United States.
