HOLGUIN.—Participants in the 7th International
Conference for the Freedom of the Five and against
Terrorism are agreed on the urgent need to
coordinate actions so that the U.S. legal
authorities and government allow the return to Cuba
of René González, given that his life is in danger
in Florida.
This was the central aspect of the
first day of the conference, with a similar call to
focus on the case of Gerardo Hernández, so that he
is granted habeas corpus relief and the two life
sentences handed down to him in a rigged trial are
withdrawn.
The Conference sent a message of
support to the Occupy Wall Street protesters
remaining on U.S. streets to demand an end to the
prevailing inequality in that country, stated Kenia
Serrano, president of the Cuban Institute of
Friendship with the Peoples, which organized the
forum.
She emphasized the importance of
using the meeting to continue accusing self-confessed
terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, currently at liberty
in Miami, a situation in sharp contrast to that of
the five Cuban anti-terrorists.
Family members of the Five and of
the victims of terrorism are present at the
conference, including Italian Justino di Celmo. •
