LISBON
(PL).—A solidarity committee in Torre de Moncorvo in
northern Portugal has called for the liberation of
five Cuban anti-terrorists incarcerated in the
United States since 1998.
The demand is contained in an Open Letter of
Solidarity circulated by the group, made up of
Portuguese and Cubans resident in that country.
The document underlines the need to increase
actions on behalf of Gerardo Hernández, Antonio
Guerrero, René González, Ramón Labañino and Fernando
Gonzalez in 2008, the tenth of their imprisonment.
The Torre de Moncorvo committee is the newest
addition to other committees for the release of the
Five in Portugal.
The letter describes the incarceration of those
fighters, decorated as National Heroes of Cuba, as
outrageous, and affirms that all of them were
working to avert acts of terrorism organized and
perpetrated from the United States against the
island.
