A dozen Cuban
cyclists to Pan American Championship
CUBA is sending a team of 12 members
to compete in the Pan American Track Cycling
Championship in Mexico City, February 6-10.

Cuba’s Arnold
Alcolea secured
the 11th spot among
170 competitors in the
individual qualification race
for the 7th Tour de
San Luis in Argentina.

Leading the group is Lisandra
Guerra, winner of multiple Pan American medals, and
included are Marlies Mejías, Yudelmis Domínguez,
Arlenis Sierra and Yans Carlos Arias, who recently
participated in the final World Cup competition in
Aguascalientes and are currently training in the
Mexican capital.
Joining these athletes are sprinters
Laura Arias, Alejandro Mainat, Luis Alberto Montoya
and Iván Delís López, as well as Ramón Martín, Pedro
Sibila and Alejandro Díaz, according to national
commissioner Héctor Ruiz.
The tournament will award all gold
medalists direct slots to the Minsk (Belarus) World
Championship, thence the Cuban cyclists’ focus on
winning in some categories and maintaining the
country’s third place finish in recent continental
competitions.
As for road cycling, Cuba’s Arnold
Alcolea, bronze medalist in the 2011 Pan Americans,
is in good shape, having recently won the 11th spot
among 170 competitors in the individual
qualification race for the 7th Tour de San Luis in
