Cuban wins
silver in World Rowing Championship
|

Angel Fournier
from Guantánamo
made history for Cuban rowing
in South Korea. |
AFTER a long wait, Cuba has finally
secured a medal in the South Korea World Rowing
Championships, thanks to Angel Fournier from
Guantánamo in the single skulls, who finished with a
historic silver, September 1 in Chungiu, South Korea,
becoming the best rower of all time in the country.
The race was emotional and difficult for Fournier
because, at the 500-meter post he was last, but
little by little picked up speed, until gaining
fourth position at the halfway mark, third at just
500 meters from the final line and second to cross
the line (6:48.91), just three seconds behind Czech
Ondrej Synek (6:45.24), 2010 World Champion and
Olympic two-time runner-up. (SE)
