Centrobasket 2014

The Cuban women’s basketball team
showed that winning the continental crown in the
2013 FIBA Americas Championship, was no coincidence,
but rather the result of the discipline and
dedication they commit to their training, after
securing their latest victory in the FIBA
Centrobasquet 2014.

The Cuban team
after winning the final of the Centrobasquet
tournament, Monterrey, México, defeating Puerto Rico
58-47.
The Cubans put on a brilliant
performance in the Centrobasquet final, after
comfortably defeating Puerto Rico (58-47). Although
the Cubans were the pre-competition favorites, their
victory in Monterrey, México, was no less
meritorious. Once again our team showed its
potential with a strong defense and quick counter-attacks.
From the beginning of the
competition, the Cuban coach skillfully directed the
players to overcome their competitors, surpassing El
Salvador, the Virgin Islands, Jamaica and the
Dominican Republic and qualifying for the Central
American and Caribbean; Pan American; and Americas
Pre-Olympic Games.
The Cuban team with defenders
Oyanaisys Gelis, Isneidis Casanova, Arlenis Romero,
Anisleidis Galindo and Islen Carbonell; forwards
Yamara Amargo, Leidis Oquendo and Francis Ochoa; and
centers Marlene Cepeda (team captain), Clenia Noblet,
Suchitel Avila and Anay García secured a well
deserved victory for Cuba, a triumph which will
motivate them to give their all in the forthcoming
FIBA World Championship.
Outstanding individual players were
Yamara Amargo, named as Most Valuable Player (MVP)
of the tournament, while captain Marlén Cepeda once
again performed brilliantly in the rebounds and
offense, showing consistency in every game.
