Cuban rower wins
bronze in
Rowing World Cup
Cuban rower Ángel Fournier finished
in the top three of the Men’s Single Sculls, open
category, after winning bronze in the Aiquebelette
Rowing World Cup II, France, in the A final, which
brought together many of the best in the field.

Fournier won bronze in the Men’s Single Sculls, open
category, at the Aiquebelette Rowing World Cup II,
in France.
Fournier, silver medalist at the
World Championships, Chungiu, South Korea, completed
the 2,000 meter long French course in 6:58.360
minutes.
Previously, Fournier had dominated
his eliminatory (6:48.060) and semifinal (6:50.220)
heats of the competition in which 24 rowers
participated.
New Zealand rower Mahe Drysdale,
winner of the London 2012 Olympic Games, was
proclaimed champion with a time of 6:55.150 minutes,
followed by Czech Ondrej Synek (6:56.970), silver
medalist in London 2012 and gold medal winner in the
World Championships, South Korea.
Finishing in fourth place was
another world rowing great, the German Marcel Hacker
(7:00.360). Fifth and Sixth position went to
Stanislau Shcharbachenia (7:02.660) from Belarus and
Julien Bahain (7:12.250) from Canada, respectively.
Winner of the B final, for places
7-12, was the Dutch Roel Braas (6:57.510), while
winners in the C (13-18) and D (19-24) finals were
the Mexican Juan Carlos Cabrera (7:04.730) and
Bulgarian Romeo Angelov (7:14.010), respectively.
By country, the British rowers took
first place on the podium on Aiguebelette Canal with
six gold, four silver and three bronze, followed by
New Zealand (5-0-1); France (3-1-1); the United
States (2-3-2) and China (2-1-2). (Granma
