Jamaica third by country in Moscow World Athletics

WITH the gold medals won on the final day in the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays, Jamaica came third in the general medals table of the 14th Moscow World Athletics Championships, won by Russia.
The Jamaican sprinters reconfirmed their condition as pre-competition favorites, and led by phenomenal runners Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, won their races to make a total of six gold medals, two silvers and one bronze, only exceeded by the Russian champions (7-4-6) and the United States (6-13-6).
Both Bolt and Fraser-Pryce won the 100 and 200 meters and the 4x100m relays, an unmatched triple for a nation in these meets.
Among the Latin American nations, Colombia excelled in 12th place, with the gold from triple jumper Caterine Ibargüen, followed by Cuba in 23rd, with a silver from Pedro Pablo Pichardo in the triple jump, and the bronzes won by Yarisley Silva (pole-vault) and Yarelys Barrios (discus throw).
