Cuban baseball
season finale begins
 TEAMS
from Villa Clara and Matanzas are facing off in the
seven-game playoff final of Cuba’s National Series.
To reach the final Villa Clara and Matanzas
dispensed with Cienfuegos and Sancti Spíritus,
respectively. The two teams have met in nine games
during the regular season, with Villa Clara leading
the match-up by a slim margin, 5-4.
The first game of the series, held in Matanza’s
Victoria de Girón Stadium east of Havana, was won by
Villa Clara, 4-0, lead by stellar pitcher Freddy
Asiel Alvarez.
