Cuba wins 13
medals in regional swimming championship
CUBA sealed its participation in the
28th Central American and Caribbean Aquatic Sports
Championship in Costa Rica, with five gold, four
silver and four bronze medals.
With this performance, the island
moved up to ninth place in the medals count. The
large Venezuela delegation did excellently and is
the champion in this sport, with 37-23-21 for a
total of 81, followed by Trinidad & Tobago
(13-6-8-27) and Guatemala (9-8-7-24).
Cuban Armando Barrera stood out in
the 15-17-year-old category, with three gold medals,
and a new record for the 50-meter backstroke with a
time of 26.87 seconds.
Cuban Christian Ricardo took two
golds and one silver in the 13-14 years category.
