Cuba wins silver in
Havana Judo Grand Prix
Cuba took second place, among 39
countries, in the Havana Judo Grand Prix, winning
two gold, two sliver and four bronze medals, only
surpassed by Georgia (3-0-2).
Gold medal winners for Cuba were
María Celia Laborde in the 48kg category and Yanet
Bermoy (52 kg). Silver medalists were Dayaris Mestre
(48 kg) and Magdiel Estrada (73 kg); while bronze
went to Aliuska Ojeda (57 kg), Maricet Espinosa (63
kg), Yalennis Castillo (78 kg) and Oscar Brayson
(100 plus kg).
The brilliant, Idalis Ortiz, current
Olympic and World champion in the 78kg category was
far from his usual form finishing without a medal.
Following Georgia and Cuba were
France (2-2-1); Russia (2-0-6); Germany (1-1-3); The
United States (1-1-0); Israel (1-0-0); China (1-0-0)
