Death of Bernie
Dwyer, untiring fighter for the Five
BERNIE Dwyer, the Irish journalist who worked at
Radio Habana Cuba for many years, died in Ireland on
July 10. She was the director of a number of
documentaries, including Mission against Terror
and The Day Diplomacy Died. Bernie
interviewed dozens of international figures, among
them Noam Chomsky.
Her
profound investigative work on acts of aggression
and terrorism against Cuba and in defense of the
Five Cuban patriots unjustly sentenced in the United
States constituted an important denunciation for the
work of international solidarity.
Her smile, her words in English and Spanish, her
profound articles, her participation in
international events, her fertile work, even when
she was very sick, will remain with all of us who
had the enormous privilege of knowing her as she was:
a great woman, a great compañera, a great
documentary maker and revolutionary.
We send to her daughters and son, grandchildren,
family members and her beloved Irish people a strong
embrace from the family members of the Five, from
all of her compañeros, from everyone in Cuba
and in the world who had the honor of knowing,
respecting and loving her.
