March for the Cuban Five in Katmandu
KATMANDU, Nepal, October 1.— As part of the Global
Event in Solidarity with the Cuban Five and against
Terrorism, the Nepal-Cuba Solidarity Committee (CSNC)
held a march in Katmandu. Banners and placards were
raised in the heart of the city in support of the
Cuban Five and to demand an immediate stop to the
unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade
imposed by the United States on Cuba.
The march began at Basantapur Square and ended at
the Garden of Dreams, where a massive meet was held.
Around 500 people participated, including Member of
Parliament Mr. Dilli Prasad and the President of the
CSNC, who both expressed their support and
solidarity with the Cuban Five. One of the most
significant aspects of the march was the number of
women who participated.
The enormous wave of solidarity that the case has
generated in small and distant countries such as
Nepal was evident once again; with such nations
carrying out large-scale actions when there is a
need to defend justice, commented Siempre Cuba,
a blog for friends of the country all over the
world.
Katmandu, from where you can see the Himalayas —The
Roof of the World—, is located in a valley at an
altitude of 1,400 meters, crossed by eight rivers
and surrounded by four of the largest mountains in
Nepal: Shivapuri, Phulchoki, Nagarjun and
Chandragiri, which reach heights of between
1,500-3,000 meters. (Juventud Rebelde)
