Russian Troops Participate in
Maneuvers in South Ossetia
Moscow,
September 24 (Prensa Latina).— Some 700 soldiers
from southern Russia''s Military District
participated in military maneuvers along with the
Armed Forces of South Ossetia, the press service of
the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed on
Wednesday.
In
the drills, carried out in a military zone in
Ossetia, several targets were destroyed by the
artillery, motorized infantry, T-72 and BRT-80
armored vehicles, self-propelled mortars, Grad
missile launchers and grenade launchers, it was
reported.
The operations
carried out as part of Russia's response to the
deployment of troops from the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization (NATO) on its borders included
repelling air attacks and crossing zones
contaminated by weapons of mass destruction.
