Russia Warns U.S. to
Respect Syrian Sovereignty
Moscow,
September 23 (RHC).— The Russian Federation has
warned the United States of violating the
sovereignty of Syria. Russian Foreign Minister
Sergey Lavrov called on U.S. Secretary of State John
Kerry to respect Syria's sovereignty, the ministry
said in a statement on Sunday.
Lavrov urged
"the necessity to strictly comply with the United
Nations statute, norms of international law and
unconditional respect of Syrian sovereignty," the
statement read. Lavrov's remarks came after U.S.
President Barack Obama authorized airstrikes against
the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in the region earlier
this month.
The ISIL
Takfiri terrorists currently control parts of Syria
and Iraq. They have threatened all communities,
including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Izadi
Kurds and others, as they continue their atrocities
in Iraq.
The
terrorist group has links with Saudi intelligence
and is believed to be indirectly supported by the
Israeli regime. Syria has been gripped by deadly
violence since 2011 with ISIL Takfiri terrorists
currently controlling parts of it mostly in the
east.
The Western
powers and their regional allies -- especially
Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey -- are reportedly
supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
