MADRID.— Cuban anti-terrorist Fernando González
thanked supporters in Spain for their solidarity
upon his arrival in the country, as an invited guest
of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE).
González , a member of the Cuban Five who completed
his sentence in U.S. prisons in full and is now
serving as vice president of the Cuban Friendship
Institute, thanked supporters for their efforts and
called upon solidarity groups in Spain to continue
their work to free Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino
and Antonio Guerrero, incarcerated since September,
1998.
As
part of his visit, Fernando González will meet with
the Federation of Cubans Resident in Spain, and
participate in meetings with solidarity groups and a
concert.
René
González, another member of the Cuban Five who has
completed his sentence, with his spouse Olga
Salanueva, concluded a tour of several European
countries, September 16 in France. In this nation,
he had a busy schedule including meetings with
members of Parliament and diplomats from Central
America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
He
had previously visited Portugal and was scheduled to
travel to Britain. The British government, however,
denied González a visa, for the second time, and
Olga was obliged to continue alone, and participate
in meetings with legislators and trade unionists in
the city of Liverpool.
