Piñeiro septets nominated for Latin Grammy’s
THE discs Border-Free, by
Chucho Valdés, La canción cubana, by Miriam
Ramos, Vamos pa´ la fiesta, by the Septeto
Santiaguero, and La Habana tiene su son, by
the Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro are the Cuban
recordings nominated this year for the Latin Grammy
Awards.
The maestro Chucho Valdés and his
Afro-Cuban Messengers are competing in the Best
Latin Jazz Album category with Border-Free
(Jazz Village/Comanche Music), according to the
Latin Academy of Recording website.
The disc recorded by singer Miriam
Ramos is entered in the Best Traditional Tropical
Album category with her triptych La Canción,
from Colibrí Productions, winner of the Cubadisco
2013 Grand Prize. In this compilation, the singer
undertakes a tour of Cuban genres, accompanied by
excellent instrumentalists such as Ernán López-Nussa,
Barbarito Torres and Rolando Luna.
The Santiaguero and Nacional Ignacio
Piñeiro septets are in the same category, the first
with the CD Vamos pa´la fiesta, from the
Catalan Picap recording studios, in which they pay
tribute to traditional Cuban music.
Ignacio Piñeiro entered the Latin
Grammy’s with the recording La Habana tiene su
son, from the BisMusic label.
The work of other important Cuban
artists was also recognized in other categories,
although recorded by foreign groups and labels, such
as String Quartet # 5, by the maestro Leo
Brouwer, a piece included in the Beatlerianas,
by the Havana String Quartet, from Zoho Classix.
The awards ceremony for the 14th
edition of the 2013 Latin Grammy Awards takes place
in Las Vegas, November 20-21. It is expected that
another Cuban, Juan Formell, is to be presented with
the Latin Grammy for Excellence. (Cubarte and
