challenges and the complexity of the region’s drug
trafficking problem, 10 years after Cuba implemented
two anti-drug operations: Coraza Popular and Aché
III, the country’s strategy continues to demonstrate
its effectiveness. In 2012 a minimal presence of
such illegal substances was detected internally
(25kg); no suspicious flights were noted; the
interception of drug-trafficking boats declined from
52 in 2011 to 24, and practically all drugs thrown
overboard along the country’s coastline were
collected by, or turned over to authorities
(2,961kg).

5,149 patients have benefited from the procedure,

of patients receiving a kidney in Cuba is 80%, on a

Christ of Havana statue restored

THE restoration of the
Cristo de La Habana statue has been completed
to coincide with the 54th Anniversary of
Comandante Che Guevara's taking of La Cabaña
Fortress with the Ciro Redondo 8th Column. In a
solemn act of commemoration, the first unveiling of
the monument on December 25, 1958 was remembered
along with its artist and sculptor, Jilma Madera.
