Cuba to have more than 85,000
hotel rooms

Investments in the Cuban tourism industry will continue in order to complete more than 85,500 rooms of international standard by 2020, Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero stated in Camagüey.

Manuel Marrero, minister of Tourism, emphasized that in the first six months of the year, revenue from eco-tourism grew 11.6%.

Marrero commented that the greatest efforts will be made in maintaining and preserving current installations, and emphasized that the country has some 61,200 hotel rooms of international standard.

He explained that 66.5% of these rooms are located in four and five star hotels, emphasizing that, in order to facilitate the arrival of holidaymakers to the island, Cuba has 10 international airports, in which 36 airlines from 51 countries operate.

Some 40% of tourists who also visited other Caribbean countries
rated Cuba as superior.

Marrero highlighted that in the first six months of the year eco-tourism earned the national economy 1,315,771 CUC, representing growth of 11.6%.

He reported that 40.1% of tourists who visited Cuba and other Caribbean countries in the first half of 2014 rated Cuba as superior; 45.1 as equal; and only 14.3% as inferior to other regional destinations. (Excepts from PL)
