New Scientific Council for
pharmaceutical industry
• Biocubafarma’s new Scientific
Council will be responsible for formulating and
evaluating the industry’s collaboration policy

The
Cuban state enterprise Biocubafarma – Biotechnology
Pharmaceutical Industry Group – announced the
constitution of a Scientific-Technical Council (CCT)
yesterday, July 8, with Vice President Miguel
Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on hand.

Fundamental lines related to cancer
treatment, equipment and technology
will be prioritized.
Speaking to the group of scientists gathered for the
occasion at Havana’s Genetic and Biotechnology
Engineering Center, Díaz-Canel emphasized the role
played by Cuban science in the country’s development
of products and services, saying “We are witnessing
a fundamental act which will largely define the
future of this organization.”
The
Council will be responsible for formulating and
evaluating the industry’s domestic and international
collaboration policy, providing opportunities to
discuss issues related to scientific and technical
development, based on the needs of the country,
according to Gustavo Sierra, Biocubafarma policy
director and CCT executive vice preisdent.
