Cuban Interests Section in U.S. to provide consular services through February 17, 2014

ON December 6 M&T Bank informed the Cuban Interests Section in Washington D.C. that the definitive closing of the Cuban diplomatic mission’s accounts has been postponed until March 1, 2014, specifying that deposits would be accepted through February 17, 2014.

The Interests Section announced that consular services would be immediately re-established, on a temporary basis through February 17, 2014

Efforts will continue to locate another bank to maintain Interests Section accounts, and if this is accomplished, the mission will be in a position to resume normal operations and continue provision of consular services.

The Cuban Interests Section laments any inconvenience caused Cuban and United States citizens by the suspension of consular services November 26 and will offer timely information about the issue as the situation unfolds.
