We will never give up the right to
denounce injustice

The International Solidarity with the Cuban Five and
Against Terrorism event began September 4 - on the
anniversary of the death of Italian tourist Fabio Di
Celmo, victim of a terrorist attack against Cuba -
and will run through October 6, on the anniversary
38 years ago of the mid-flight bombing of a Cubana
de Aviación plane in 1976, killing all 73 people on
board and orchestrated by the same group which
killed Fabio and against whom the Cuban Five were
fighting.
Graciela
Ramírez, coordinator of the International Committee
for the Freedom of the Cuban Five, stated that from
September 11-13 “we will return to Washington to
talk with members of congress and assistants of
legislators from different states,” with a vigil
outside the White House being held on September 12.
The
exhibition
Absueltos por
la
solidaridad
(Absolved by Solidarity), by
Tony Guerrero, consisting on 16 watercolors
reflecting the Five’s unfair trial, is scheduled to
open September 13. Also on the September 11-12, 200
delegates from 49 countries will meet in Havana for
the 5th International Solidarity with the Cuban Five
and Against Terrorism Colloquium.
While in
Portugal, political leaders and representatives from
solidarity organizations demanded the U.S.
government immediately release the three
anti-terrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in
the U.S.
In a ceremony held during the Avante newspaper
Celebration, on the outskirts of Lisbon, Portuguese
Communist Party (PCP) Member of Parliament and
President of the Portugal-Cuba Parliamentary
Friendship Group, Antonio Filipe, emphasized the
importance of international pressure on the U.S
government to secure the release of
Ramón, Gerardo and Antonio.
Filipe restated his commitment to the cause and
called for more actions working in solidarity with
the Cuban Five.
In Lisbon, René González, one of the five Cuban
anti-terrorists, stated in an exclusive with
Prensa Latina that “We will never give up the
right to denounce the injustice which has been
committed.” In regards to the case of the Cuban
Five, he spoke of its political nature and the
importance therefore of continuing to put pressure
on the U.S. government to secure justice. He also
tanked - in the name of himself and his brothers -
all those supporting the cause and expressed his
gratitude for all the displays of solidarity shown
by the world and which continue today during the
international solidarity event. |
