Amaya Saborit Alfonso
A press
conference was held today at the Cuban Friendship
Institute with the Peoples (ICAP) detailing the main
activities which will take place as part of the
Solidarity with the Cuban Five and fight against
terrorism event, running from September 4 through
October 6.
The
activities “are the result of the effort of the
whole of society; we want our message calling for
the release of our brothers to reach,” explained
Fernando González Llort, Decorated Hero of the
Republic of Cuba and vice president of ICAP.
“The
Cuba-solidarity groups and Committees for the
Freedom of the Cuban Five in each country have
planned protests in front of U.S. embassies and will
send letters to Barack Obama, among other actions,”
stated Fernando.
Political
and social organizations have strongly embraced the
cause, with various activities planned which will
take place in, and have an impact on, not only the
capital but also all provinces and municipalities in
Cuba, stated Joan Cabo Mijares, member of the UJC
National Committee.
Father
Michael Lapsley, vice president of the South African
Council of Churches and director of the Institute
for Healing of Memories read a letter by Gerardo
Hernández Nordelo regarding the release of Lapsley’s
book, Redeeming the past: my journey from freedom
fighter to healer, in Cuba.
Also in
attendance at the event were Graciela Ramírez,
coordinator of the International Committee for the
Freedom of the Cuban Five; Kenia Serrano, president
of ICAP and Joan Cabo Mijares, member of the UJC
National Committee.
