German and Italian solidarity
organizations, and father Michael Lapsley, vice
president of the South African Council of Churches,
met yesterday at the Cuban Friendship Institute with
the Peoples (ICAP) to join forces in support of the
cause of the Cuban Five.
Fernando
González, Decorated Hero of the Republic of Cuba,
sentenced to 17 years and nine months in U.S.
prison, and current ICAP president, emphasized the
importance of the role of solidarity organizations
working in support of the Cuban Five.
Coordinator of Cuba Sí, Konstantin Seeger, commented
on the activities scheduled to take place in Berlin,
including a protest outside the U.S. embassy in
support of, and to call attention to the cause. In
addition, Marco Papacci, vice president of the
Italy-Cuba National Friendship Association (ANAIC),
spoke with Fernando and René González about actions
organized in his country to promote the case of the
Cuban Five; including presenting a letter - calling
for the release of Gerardo Hernández,
Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino,
the three remaining Cuban anti-terrorists
incarcerated in the U.S. - signed by 37 Italian
members of parliament and senators to Barack Obama
during his visit to the country, among other
activities.
Father Michael Lapsley also expressed his
satisfaction at the return of Fernando and René, and
his desire for the release of
Gerardo, Antonio and Ramón. |
