20th Workers’
Congress next February
Freddy Pérez Cabrera
SANTA Clara.—The Cuban Workers
Federation (CTC) 20th Congress is scheduled for
Havana, from February 20-22, 2014, according to
Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, member of its Central
Committee and president of the organizing committee
for the Congress, who was participating in the
central Villa Clara Provincial Conference.
The CTC leader stated that the
Congress will focus on the discussion of a number of
issues related to the role of the workers movement
in implementation of the Economic and Social Policy
of the Party and the Revolution Guidelines, approved
by the 6th Congress of the Communist Party, in
particular their economic aspects.
Increasing productivity, production,
the quality of services and the leading role of the
working class in the representation and defense of
workers’ rights are other topics for discussion in
the national meeting.
The Villa Clara conference, attended
by Council of State Vice President Salvador Valdés
Mesa, precisely focused on the Congress agenda.
In a discussion with delegates,
Valdés Mesa insisted on the need to guarantee a
strong workers movement, capable of confronting
together with administrative bodies actions which
conspire against increased productivity and meeting
target plans.
In this context, delegate Catalina
Pérez Sosa, from the 20 de Diciembre cattle
cooperative, in the Villa Clara municipality of
Remedios, emphasized the imperative of defying
obstacles which halt the development of the
productive forces, such as criminal acts related to
livestock and other harmful phenomena which prevent
more rapid advances. Manuel Delgado, a
representative of non-state transportation workers,
affirmed that this sector favors contributing to and
defending the achievements of the Revolution, not to
detaining their march.
Julio Lima Corzo, first secretary of
the Communist Party in the province, emphasized the
importance of member assemblies in the discussion of
plans and the budget, achieving efficiency and
rationality in the economy and in confronting crime
and illegalities.
