President of Niger arrives in Havana

On September 28, President of the Republic of Niger, Issoufou Mahamadou, began his official visit to Cuba in order to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries, which already include the spheres of health, sports and education.

Mahamadou was received at the José Martí International Airport by Ana Teresita González Fraga, vice minister of Foreign Relations, as well as members of the Niger diplomatic mission serving in Cuba.

During his visit Mahamadou will hold official conversations with President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and visit important centers of medical cooperation and education.

Cuba and Niger established diplomatic relations in 1976 and currently maintain strong links of cooperation which have been strengthened in the spheres of health, sport and education, for the mutual benefit of both countries.

Since 1999 - beginning with 30 collaborators - Cuban doctors have been working in Niger. 11 Cuban doctors are currently working in the country under the system of the Comprehensive Health Program.

Educational cooperation has enabled 65 students from Niger to graduate at a University level, while 19 scholarship students are currently studying specialties in health and education in the country.
