CIEGO DE ÁVILA.— Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, former
president of Brazil, toured agricultural areas under
cultivation by the Cubasoy company, product of
collaborative efforts between his country and Cuba.
Accompanied by General Leopoldo Cintras Frías, and
Gustavo Rodríguez Rollero, minister of Agriculture,
Da Silva was offered a report by Cubasoy director
Jorge Lavado Sánchez, outlining company operations
and efforts undertaken by workers to increase crop
yields.

Lula
da Silva reiterated his commitment to facilitating
visits by Brazilian experts to share their
experiences and investigate what can be done to
increase the productivity of soy fields.
“It
seems to me that this is an important contribution,”
he said, “because we want to do everything possible
to help develop not only Cuba, but other Latin
American and African countries, above all with the
transfer of knowledge, so that they can have access
to modern technologies.”
He
commented that Cuba can become an important center
of agricultural development and therefore suggested
that collaboration in this area be strengthened,
with working visits by Cuban specialists,
technicians and students to Brazil and vice versa.
Lula
and his delegation also visited bean fields in the
area of Caballé, and a modern seed processing plant
with the capacity to handle 20 tons in 24 hours.
