Following the meetings held by national coordinators
of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean
States (CELAC) over the weekend, foreign relations
ministers are meeting today, January 27, to refine
the documents which will be presented tomorrow to
the Summit of government leaders from the region’s
33 independent countries.
The
foreign ministers are in agreement that Cuba has
played an outstanding role as 2013 president pro
tempore of the organization. They are looking
forward to the discussions which will take place
during the coming days to address important issues
such as the eradication of poverty, hunger and
inequality; the declaration of the region as a Zone
of Peace; the rights of indigenous peoples and
international relations, among others.
