President Raúl Castro leads national
July 26th commemoration

General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the
Communist Party of Cuba and President of the
Councils of State and Ministers, led the central
commemoration of Cuba's National Day of Rebellion in
the city of Artemisa, where Comandante de la
Revolución Ramiro Valdés Menéndez presented the
principal remarks.
The
political-cultural event, held in the Martyrs of
Artemisa Mausoleum on the 61st anniversary of the
assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de
Céspedes Garrisons, was also attended by José Ramón
Machado Ventura, second secretary of the Party's
Central Committee and a vice president of the
Councils of State and Ministers, as well as First
Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

Comandante de la Revolución Ramiro Valdés Menéndez,
member of the Party's Political Bureau, a vice
president of the Councils of State and Ministers,
decorated Hero of the Republic, and one of the
Artemisa natives who participated in the glorious
July 26, 1953 assaults delivered the principal
remarks of the commemoration.
Eight thousand Artemisans representing the people
accompanied protagonists of the assaults and
participants in the expedition made by the yacht
Granma; members of solidarity with Cuba brigades;
provincial leaders of social and political mass
organizations; members of the Revolutionary Armed
Forces and the Ministry of the Interior; and other
guests.
