“Fifty-four years of aggression
and economic war perpetuated by the world’s most
powerful country, will never force this people to
surrender, despite the economic damage done, which
has reached a value of more than a trillion dollars,
given the depreciation of the USD,” reads the
National Assembly of People’s Power International
Relations Commission’s declaration, released during
a hearing held to gather testimony about the
blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.
The document, read by Deputy
Miriam Ofelia Ortega Suárez, summarizes the impact
of the criminal blockade and describes the hostile
policy as unprecedented, the longest and most
ironclad seen during modern times.
The statement concludes with an
appeal to parliamentarians around the world,
including the U.S. Congress, to express opposition
to the blockade and support for Cuba’s resolution,
to be considered by the United Nations General
Assembly, calling for an end to the blockade and
respect for Cubans’ right to determine their own
destiny.
