Fidel receives
Chinese President
On July 22, the historic leader of
the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, met with the
President of the People’s Republic of China Xi
Jinping, who was leading a delegation on a state
visit to Cuba.

The discussion between the two
leaders was characterized by a friendly atmosphere,
reflecting the longstanding ties shared by their
respective parties, governments and peoples.
Fidel and Xi Jinping addressed
various topics of international interest, in
particular the great dangers and challenges
confronting humanity, as well as the significance of
the Declaration adopted this past July 15 by the
countries which comprise the BRICS group; and the
importance of the Chinese President’s Latin American
tour, which will end today July 23, in the historic
Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba.
Joining Jinping was Foreign Minister
Wang Yi, two members of the Communist Party of
China’s Political Bureau, and several young members
of the delegation.
In a generous gesture, President Xi
Jinping presented Fidel with a 175-kg bust of the
historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, which the
subject said appeared much more like the young man,
than the current one captured in the artwork.
