Díaz-Canel receives director of OPCW – Organization
for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First
Vice President of the Councils of State and
Ministers received, on the morning of Tuesday,
October 21, the Honorable Ahmed Üzümcü, Director
General Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical
Weapons, who is on a working visit to Cuba.

Díaz-Canel and Ahmed Üzümcü
discussed the excellent sate of relations between
Cuba and the OPCW, and reiterated their shared
desire to strengthen ties and promote the peaceful
use of chemicals. As a reflection of this commitment,
they emphasized the importance of a regional course
on medical aspects of assistance and protection from
chemical weapons for Latin American and Caribbean
specialists, taking place in Havana October 20-23.
Also present at the meeting were
Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, interim Director General
for the Minsitry of Foreign Relations for
multilateral affairs and international law; and
Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, Cuba’s ambassador to
Holland and the country’s designated representative
to OPCW.
