Venezuelan President Maduro
emphasizes ALBA’s ability to respond to emergencies

Upon
his arrival in Havana for the ALBA-TCP Summit on
Ebola, yesterday evening, Venezuelan President
Nicolás Maduro emphasized that the meeting
demonstrates the distinctive nature of the alliance,
as one based on the pursuit of life, peace and
solidarity.
He
added that the meeting of the Bolivarian Alliance
for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples Trade
Agreement is a good indication of the group’s
strength and ability to organize itself to confront
emergencies such as the Ebola epidemic affecting
countries in West Africa.
Maduro added, “The best place to hold this meeting
is Cuba, given its advances, its discipline and
solidarity, which is an example of how to provide
health for all peoples,” recalling that Cuba has
sent 165 health professionals to West Africa in
response to the United Nations appeal for support.
“We
come to reinforce our quality, free and universal
health care systems,” he explained, and to prevent
the extension of the epidemic to the region.
