Essential women
Cuban women, known for their
discipline, tenacity and beauty, can be counted on
to fulfill any responsibility
Lissy Rodríguez
In
the discipline, tenacity and beauty of Cuban women
lies the secret to their ability to fulfill any
responsibility assumed. This reality was made clear
during the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) ceremony,
held August 19, to honor outstanding individuals
with the organization’s August 23 distinction, on
the occasion of the FMC’s anniversary.
During the event held in the José Martí Memorial,
recognized were 35 women and one man from a variety
of arenas, including culture, education, science,
agriculture, sports and the communications media. A
total of 348 were honored across the country.
Granma discussed the evolving role of the FMC with
actress Eslinda Núñez, among the honorees, who
commented, “Over the course of my entire life, I
have seen the changes which have favored women,
their role in the family, in the expansion of spaces
available for youth, and the offering of
self-development courses.”
Also
attending the ceremony were members of the Party
Central Committee José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera and
Olga Lidia Tapia Iglesias, in addition to Teresa
Amarelle, FMC general secretary, and Carlos Rafael
Miranda, national coordinator of the Committees for
the Defense of the Revolution.
