During the funeral ceremony, held June 30 in Havana’s Colón Cemetery, Army Corps General Ramón Espinosa Martín, deputy minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) said that the death of Sixto Batista has moved many, “given his spotless, brilliant record of service to the homeland and because he was a person who easily won the affection of those who knew him.”

“Facing an illness, we saw him making a great effort to contribute to the Revolution, with the same attitude and dedication for which he was always known,” Espinosa Martín said.

Also in attendance to pay their respects were Ulises Rosales del Toro, a Council of Ministers vice president; General Abelardo Colomé Ibarra, minister of the Interior; Leopoldo Cintra Frías, FAR minister; Party leaders; and family members.
