Copa Airlines announces new flights
to boost tourism in central Cuba

On September 15, Copa Airlines announced a new
flight route to the city of Santa Clara which will
operate from December onwards, in order to boost
tourism to Cayo Santa Maria.
An official statement from the airline added that
the first flight to Santa Clara is scheduled for the
December 9, providing a new destination for those
traveling from Panama City.
Copa Airlines will be the first international
airline to offer scheduled flights to the interior
of Cuba.
Nelson Cabrera, the airline’s sales executive,
explained that the company expects an increase in
passengers, as Cayo Santa Maria has become a
fashionable Cuban tourist destination.
Copa Airlines (founded in 1947) is based in Panama
City and flies to 71 destinations, in 30 countries
in North, Central and South America and the
Caribbean. The new route will offer two weekly
flights (Tuesday and Saturday).
The statement also highlighted the airline’s vision
regarding the new route to Santa Clara and Cayo
Santa Maria, which it describes as a gateway to this
Caribbean paradise through the Hub of the Americas
