Educational
television:
A tool for teachers
Nine television programs primarily
related to civic education and culture have been
added to the Canal Educativo (Educational Channel)
schedule, providing a total of 46 programs in
various subjects for the National Education System.
The
programs continue to be broadcast between nine in
the morning and five in the afternoon during the
week for students and Saturday in the early hours (until
11 am) for teachers. But the programs relating to
the current academic year will reflect any changes
in the school timetable.
According to Josefina Sarduy, an
Educational Cinematography methodologist,
teleclasses for the primary education subjects of
Visual Arts and Music will continue to be broadcast,
as well as Arts Education for seventh grade students.
Similarly, programs on English, from third through
to sixth grade, and Labor Education for seventh and
eighth grade will continue to scheduled, as these
curricular subjects require support in the form of
television classes.
However, this course will also
included citizenship training programs that will
support the Civic Education course for students in
sixth, seventh and eighth grade. "These programs
were designed in an attractive manner and include
short dramas, interviews with students on the topic
in question, and the intervention of a specialist to
support the essence of the educational message,"
Sarduy explained.
Another area that they intend to
promote is vocational training and career guidance,
with programs aimed at junior high school students
relating to the different technical courses on offer
and for eleventh and twelfth grade students, with a
view to choosing their college career.
"We will also have further programs
relating to literature, art, the use of language,
thought and debate on issues such as health, road-safety
education and sexual education, etc., to be
broadcast in the afternoon."
The programs for teachers, Para ti
maestro (For you, teacher), will also continue to be
broadcast, with the inclusion of one aimed at family
education in order to help develop topics related to
the field of education for parents.
In addition, beginning Sunday
October 5, the revision classes for the Higher
Education entrance examinations will be re-broadcast,
targeting youths studying agriculture. Meanwhile,
from February through April 2015, programs for
twelfth grade will be transmitted.
Sarduy also referred to the
completion and delivery of audiovisual series to
each province of the country, aimed at High School,
Pre-University and Vocational Technical Education. "There
are ten chapters of 10 to 15 minutes on topics of
interest such as traditions, colonial forts, museums,
how to study effectively, among others, which serve
as a teaching materials."
