Vice President Díaz-Canel bids
farewell to Cuban athletes departing for Central
American Games

Determined to do their best in the Central American
and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico, the last
delegation of Cuban athletes departed today for the
event, where Cuba will participate in 34 of the 46
disciplines for which competitions have been
organized.

More
than 300 practitioners of handball, canoeing,
baseball, cycling, fencing, swimming, tae kwon do,
target shooting, volleyball, gymnastics, and other
sports will join the 130 athletes already training
in Mexico.
Seeing the group off at José Martí International
Airport’s Terminal 5, First Vice President of the
Councils of State and Ministers Miguel Díaz-Canel
Bermúdez reiterated the confidence the Cuban people
have in the athletes.
“With decisiveness, strength and conviction, you
will show your determination to make the greatest
effort to retake the Central American championship
title,” he said.
Joining the send-off ceremony were José Ramón
Fernández, president of Cuba’s Olympic Committee,
and Antonio Becali, head of INDER, the Institute of
Sports, Physical Education and Recreation.
