Pastors for Peace return to
Cuba July 24
After visiting 65 cities in Canada and the United
States, the 25th Pastors for Peace caravan will
arrive in Havana July 24 and remain through August
3, during which time it will participate in various
solidarity activities in support of the Cuban
people.
According to Radio Habana Cuba, the group will once
again donate tons of humanitarian aid, which on this
occasion includes four vehicles and medical
supplies, difficult to obtain in Cuba due to the
economic blockade imposed on the country for more
than 50 years by the U.S. government.
Pastors for Peace Co-director, Gail Walker, stated
that she is happy to show U.S. authorities that the
world is opposed to their unjust and immoral policy,
adding that the Caravan is taking place at a special
moment, when U.S. public opinion favors
normalization of relations with Cuba, ending of the
blockade, and releasing the remaining members of the
Cuban Five, three anti-terrorists who are still
serving unjust sentences in U.S. prisons.
This year the Caravan will be dedicated to Cuban
youth, and will participate in the July 26 National
Day of Rebellion celebrations, in the eastern
province of Artemisa.
Participants will place a floral wreath by the
plaque situated in the José Martí Anti-Imperialist
Tribunal, opposite the Havana Malecón, commemorating
Reverend Lucius Walker (1930-2010), leader of
Pastors for Peace, social activist, human rights
advocate and tireless fighter against Washington’s
criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade
imposed on Cuba.
