For a socially responsible university
HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 10 (acn) The 9 th
International University Congress, underway in
Havana tthrough February 14, is being attended by
renowned personalities, such as Brazilian theologian
Frei Betto, Nobel Peace Laureate Adolfo Perez
Esquivel and political analyst Atilio Boron, both
from Argentina.

Also
participating is Cyprus’ Androulla Vassiliou,
European Commissioner of Education, Culture and
Youth, who will present a lecture during the event.
Attending the forum are some 3,000 experts from 60
nations, who will focus on the contribution students
can make to local development, regional economic
integration projects and the current challenges
posed by inter-cultural dialogue, among other
subjects.
Also
present are 240 university rectors, representatives
of 17 international agencies and education officials
from different countries, as well as the presidents
of rectors’ associations and university networks in
solidarity with the five Cuban anti-terrorist
fighters who were unjustly convicted and sentenced
to long prison terms in the United States.
Participants will debate over 600 papers and visit
higher education centers.
