The decision of the US Supreme Court not to review the case of
our Five Heroes, deferring to a request from the US government, is a
slap in the face for those of us fighting for a genuinely fair world,
of justice and freedom from the scourge of terrorism.
Cuban youth is proud to have bothers of the stature of René,
Antonio, Gerardo, Ramón and Fernando. Together with the Cuban people,
we demand the immediate release of the Five, as the only way of
really doing justice in this case.
We call upon the young people of goodwill in organizations, youth
and student associations the world over to join us, as so often
before, in our fight for truth - truth trampled on by those who make
double standards a clear symbol of this discredited and shameful
judicial system.
The US administration, which harbours, protects and supports
terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosh, whose hands
are stained with the innocent blood not only of Cubans but also many
sons of other peoples, uses its rhetoric in an attempt to deceive
the world, while its real policy is driven by the interests of the
South Florida-based mafia.
We have grown up in a country that has lost 3,478 of its sons and
daughters to acts of terrorism. But our people is free of hatred or
lust for revenge, so that we retain the moral right to denounce the
pernicious process to which our brothers have been subjected - a
blatant manifestation of vindictiveness against the firm stance of
these anti-terrorist activists, and of impotence in dealing with
this small island which they have been unable, and never will be
able, to subdue.
The fight to reveal the truth and see justice prevail is
unflagging and will now intensify. Our arguments and the conclusive
evidence that the judges decline to consider, and the demands that
pour in on them as never before from highly prestigious individuals
within and beyond America's borders, are a stain on the good name of
its government - the world's greatest power - which it will find
difficult to bear or ignore.
Those who express their deep hatred for the Revolution through
viciousness and vindictiveness against our best sons, are not
revealing anything new. Throughout the last 50 years, thousands of
young people have paid with their lives - and many of us are ready
to go on doing so - as the price of living in a country that has
committed the sin of refusing to bow down to its disorderly, brutal
neighbour to the north which despises us.
The message sent to the American people by our five anti-terrorist
activists in June 2001 contains important truths that must be
remembered:
"We have reflected on our activities in this country and reaffirm
our absolute conviction that neither our attitude or actions were
wrong or threatened the security of the American people; and if we
contributed in any way to exposing terrorist plans and actions
against our people, preventing the killing of innocent Cuban and
American citizens, the greatest service that can be rendered to the
American people is to free it of the influence of these extremists
and terrorists that do so much harm to the United States by
conspiring against its own laws. We are comforted by the knowledge
of having done our duty by our people and homeland. Our families
understand the power of the ideas that have guided us and are proud
of our commitment to humanity in the fight against terrorism and for
the independence of Cuba
