A LOS CINCO CUBANOS.

Queridos Gerardo Hernández, René González, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero y Fernando González

Estoy extremadamente preocupada con la situación de ustedes en los Estados Unidos de América, por la forma en que se les ha negado la justicia, los derechos humanos y la dignidad humana. Puede que le hayan dicho que estoy haciendo todo lo posible a mi alcance para llevar a la atención del pueblo de los Estados Unidos y del mundo el injusto sufrimiento que Uds. vienen padeciendo desde septiembre de 1998 y les estoy pidiendo el apoyo al justo llamado de que todos los cargos que han sido puestos contra ustedes sean retirados y puedan regresar a sus hogares y a sus vidas en Cuba.

Tuve la gran experiencia de visitar su país, a invitación del Ministerio de Cultura, en diciembre del 2002. Me impresionó no sólo la belleza de los paisajes y de la forma que son conservadas las edificaciones históricas que son herencia del pueblo en las más difíciles circunstancias, sino también la belleza del pueblo en la Cuba de hoy, viviendo con tal coraje, dignidad y calor humano, mientras luchan con las terribles dificultades económicas impuestas por el cruel y sin sentido bloqueo de los Estados Unidos. Espero que ustedes, cinco valientes camaradas estén pronto junto al pueblo que ustedes tanto quieren y por el cual han sacrificado estos terribles años en defensa de su libertad.

Como sudafricana y miembro del Congreso Nacional Africano, quiero agradecerles a los tres de ustedes que lucharon en Angola por nuestra libertad junto a UMKHONTO WE SIZWE, nuestro Ejército de Liberación. Nunca olvidaremos el apoyo que Cuba nos ha dado y la asistencia que ahora recibimos en la reconstrucción de nuestras comunidades rurales con la presencia de los médicos cubanos.

Mis pensamientos están con ustedes, les deseo fuerza y coraje.

TO THE CUBAN FIVE

Dear Gerardo Hernández, René González, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzálz  

I am greatly concerned about your situation in the USA, the denial to you of justice, human rights, and your human dignity. You may have been told that I am doing whatever I can to bring to the attention of the people of the USA and the world the unjust suffering which you have undergone since Septhember 1998, and urging them to support a just call that the charges against you be withdrawn so that you may return to your homes and lives, in Cuba.

I had the great experience of visiting your country on the invitation of the Ministry of Culture, in December 2002. Not only the beauty of the landscapes and the wonderful way in which building have been preserved in the most difficult times, as the heritage of the people, but beauty of people in Cuba today, living with such courage, dignity and human warmth, as they content with the terrible economic difficulties imposed by the cruel and senseless USA blockade. I hope you five brave comrades will soon be back among the people you love, and for whom you have sacrificed these terrible years in defense of their freedom.  

As I am a South African, a member of the African National Congress, I want to thank three among you who fought in Angola alongside Umkhoto wa Sizwe, our liberation army, for our freedom. We do not forget the support we had from Cuba and the assistance we are receiving in the reconstruction of our rural communities with the presence of Cuban doctors.  

My thoughts are with you. I wish you continued strength and courage.
