A celebration of love
Marcelino Vázquez
May 31, people throughout Cuba came together to
celebrate our greatest treasure, children, on
International Children’s Day.
June
1, celebrations took place all over Cuba, in
recreational and cultural centers, sports grounds,
parks, plazas, hospitals and pediatric centers and
even the street, in a country which devotes itself
to children, not one, but every single day of the
year.
In any place in the country you can see the radiant
faces of boys and girls, a clear expression
children’s awareness that education, growing up
healthy, being listened to, making their own
decisions and participating in a future which
belongs to them are rights won and defended by the
Revolution.

At the Ernesto Guevara Recreation Center, The
National Career Exposition, which organized some 500
exhibitions all over the country for elementary high
school students signaled an end to the celebrations
which had lasted five days.
Odalis García, national director of the Ministry of
Elementary Education, spoke of this celebration of
knowledge, vocation and talent, as the reaffirmation
of Martí’s c certainty that humans “grow with the
work produced with their hands,” adding that plans
for the 2016 celebrations are already underway.
Create space and let your imagination fly and you
will see a multitude of children learning to play,
enjoying growing, looking with astonishment upon the
world, discovering its many natural wonders and
human ingenuity, stated Nexy Véliz, president of the
José Martí Pioneers Organization. (AIN).
