Juantorena to the
Hall of Fame
ALBERTO Juantorena’s nomination to
the World Athletics Hall of Fame is a source of
great satisfaction for the Cuban sports movement. He
is one of our most authentic champions.
The Hall of Fame will open with its
first 24 members, 17 of which have been announced
thus far, all selected by a rigorous panel this year,
on the occasion of the centenary of the
International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
The inauguration ceremony is set for next November.
Juantorena’s unprecedented victories
in both the 400 and 800 meters (with a 1:43.50
second world record) in Montreal ’76, made Olympic
history.
