Cuba’s La Cruz
selected as best boxer in the Americas for 2011
HEAVYWEIGHT Julio César La Cruz was
selected as best boxer in the Americas for 2011,
according to the AIN news agency.
La Cruz, who won the Baku World
Champion and the 16th Pan American title in
Guadalajara this past year, was awarded the
distinction during the Boxing Federation’s
continental meeting held February 4 in Montego Bay,
Jamaica.
He dominated the Pre-Pan American
Giraldo Córdova Cardín and Batalla de Carabobo
tournaments, as well as the 4th ALBA Games and
finished third in the Hungarian Memorial competition
in Bocskai and the Strandcha Classic, in Bulgaria.
Having already classified for the
2012 London Olympics, the captain of the Cuban team
is considered a favorite.
Two other Cubans have received the
distinction prior to Cruz, light welterweight Roniel
Iglesias and flyweight Robeisis Ramírez.
