We, the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, ALBA, express our strongest rejection of the threats uttered by the government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland against the integrity of the embassy of the Republic of Ecuador in London.

Statements by United Kingdom spokespersons in the case of Julian Assange suggest that this government could violate the Vienna Convention on Privileges and Immunities and thus ignore its international obligations.

The governments of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, ALBA, affirming our unswerving solidarity with the Republic of Ecuador, warn the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland of the serious consequences that the implementation of its threats would have for relations with our countries.

In order to assess this situation, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America has convened an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers to take place in the next few hours.
