THE
REAL DESTROYERS
•
Gerardo Arrechea, from the United States, sent us a
note that is very characteristic of the Cuban
extreme right abroad: “All those who support the
Communists will be wiped out. They’ve destroyed
Cuba.” Mr. Arrechea, the Cuban Revolution is
sustained by its own volition; it’s called popular
support. You obviously are of the opinion that
Communists are disgraceful, but socialism represents
something completely different for the Cuban people:
self-determination and advancement, despite the
small size of our country, blockaded by a superpower
only 90 miles from its border. Perhaps you prefer
the Cuba of the mafia and their casinos, the corrupt
politicians, a time African Cubans faced
discrimination and people died of curable diseases
due to lack of medical care. You are harboring a lot
of hatred; why not replace it with some respect and
commonsense?
RECEIVED
WITH THANKS
Alejandra
Ojeda, a social communications student from
Argentina, explained: “I’d like to take
advantage of this opportunity to send warm greetings
to the Cuban people, whom I profoundly admire and
respect. You are a people with integrity, dignity,
courage and honor, virtues unknown in my country,
especially in terms of those who govern it.” She
is interested in getting a hold of History Will
Absolve Me, Fidel Castro’s self-defense plea
during his sentencing for the military assault on
the Moncada Garrison
in
1953. You can obtain a copy of it on the web site:

Both
the Duartiano Revolutionary Movement and the Caamañista
National Liberation Front in the Dominican Republic
sent a message of “solidarity and support for the
Bolivarian Revolution led by President Hugo Chávez.
Under the instructions of Yankee imperialism, as in
1965 against Juan Bosch in our country and in 1973
against Salvador Allende in Chile, Venezuelan
reactionaries are promoting actions designed to
overthrow a legally constituted government.”
