Municipal Elections
95.86% of registered electors voted

ANA María Mari Machado, president of the National Electoral Commission (CEN) has announced that the process of validation of data from the electoral colleges has been completed and information on inclusions and exclusions of voters on the day of the elections has been checked against the Electoral Register.

Municipal Elections: 95.86% of registered electors votedThis process has made it possible to define persons added to the list of electors on April 25 – thus acknowledging their suffrage rights – and the corresponding increase on the Electoral Register. At the same time, checks have been completed on persons who voted in a constituency where they were not registered, to avoid their names being counted twice.

Likewise, the validation of votes cast corroborated the election of 12, 972 municipal delegates on the same date. Thus the official results of the first round are ready.

In the elections for delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power on April 25, 95.86% of electors voted, constituting a demonstration of support for Cuba’s political system and a overwhelming response on the part of Cuban men and women with voting rights to the media campaigns orchestrated by the U.S. government, the European Union and their lackeys in the country.

The quality of these elections is reflected in the 91.11% of valid votes cast. Of invalid votes deposited, 4.59% were blank and 4.30% spoiled.

The CEN president added that 2, 121 constituencies, 14% of the total of 15, 093 in the country, will go to a second round on Sunday, May 2, except for Jaruco and Batabanó, Habana province, and Unión de Reyes in Matanzas, where the first round is taking place. For this round, 5, 900 electoral colleges have been set up for 1.5 million voters.

Mari Machado acknowledged the serious labors of the electoral authorities, and the conscientious participation of electors, young pioneers; as well as the mass agencies and organizations that support the electoral process. "All of them have once again contributed to making our elections a resounding success of the people."
