THE 27th Havana Trade Fair (FIHAV 2009) kicks off
today at the Expocuba exhibition center. For the
next six days, it will host more than 1,600
representing 652 companies from 51 countries.
This
year’s fair is distinguished by its intensity,
covering more than 17,000 square meters in 24
pavilions. It has already met expectations in
surpassing previous editions despite the severe
international economic situation, demonstrating the
growing interest in the Cuban market.
Spain, Canada, China, Russia and Venezuela have
the largest presence by country, with the latter
three showing a 14%, 226% and 13% greater
representation, respectively, compared to the last
FIHAV. Italy, Germany, Mexico and Brazil also have
considerable representation.
The Cuban side is represented by 111 companies,
most of which are devoted to the export of goods and
services, basically in health and tourism. Replacing
imports and procuring investment that ensures
markets and technology are part of Cuba’s strategy
at this trade fair.
From today through Friday, the fair is open to
professionals, and by invitation, from 10 a.m. to 6
p.m. Saturday, it will be open to the public from 2
p.m. to 6 p.m.
