Raúl receives Paraguayan President

IN the afternoon of Wednesday, June 3 at the Palace of the Revolution, Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz received His Excellency Mr. Fernando Lugo Méndez, president of the Republic of Paraguay, who is carrying out an official visit to Cuba.

At the end of the reception protocol ceremony, the two leaders held official talks in the ambience of friendship, understanding and respect that characterizes relations between the two countries.

They expressed their satisfaction at the positive state of bilateral relations and confirmed their will to continue strengthening them. They also exchanged opinions on the challenges facing Cuba and Paraguay, as well as issues of regional and global interest.

Raúl recalled that the current Paraguayan government has stood side by side with our people in defending their rights in international forums and gave recent examples of this.

For his part, Lugo reiterated the importance of unity and solidarity for Latin America and the Caribbean, of which Cuba is providing examples in his country in the important fields of education and health.

While the meeting – which also included the participation of José Ramón Machado Ventura, first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers – was underway, three working groups also took place on International Relations, Cooperation and Culture, presided over by the respective ministers of foreign affairs, public health, and culture from the two countries.
